  4. 1930-35. A legendary public speaker, he was
  5. popular with poor white voters for his
  6. programme of social and economic reform,
  7. which he called the `Share Our Wealth'
  8. programme, and which represented a
  9. significant challenge to Roosevelt's New Deal
  10. economic programme, but his own extravagance,
  11. including the state capitol building at Baton
  12. Rouge built of bronze and marble, was widely
  13. criticized, and he was also accused of
  14. corruption. He was assassinated.
